Elaia is the second planet in the Azurite System, it is smaller than earth with a radius 70.89% of earth's. It's mass is roughly 37% that of earth leading to gravity that is 75% that of earth. Elaia orbits Azurite once every 168 earth days and completes a full rotation in 11.5 hours. 1 EY = 2.17 Elaia years. The atmosphere is slightly more dense then that of earth. Elaia is a much more active planet than earth the seasons change faster the tectonic plate move faster mountains rise and there are many earthquake. Azurite being a blue giant puts out more radiation than sol, luckily Elaia's inner core spins much faster than earth's which produces a magnetic field about twice as strong. Because of the high amount of radiation being deflected around the planet auroras are a common sight at night anywhere on Elaia.
Elaia has two moons that orbit the planet. They both have elliptical orbits with different periods that leads to interesting patterns in the lunar phases. Because of the nature of the moons orbits there are many different tides on Elaia. Then the moon are on opposite sides of the planet the tide can be hardly noticeable only changing by half a meter or so. However when both moons are aligned on the same side of Elaia the tide can vary by as much as 30 meters.
Elaia is a very vertical world with many mountain ranges that span the three main continents. The largest continent spans across the Northern and Southern hemispheres. The two smaller continents lie completely within either hemisphere. There are several archipelagos of scattered around Elaia. There is a narrow band of tropical climate at the equator but because if the quick change of seasons most of Elaia is covered in temperate forests. The mountain peaks of Elaia are sharp and jagged, because of the lower gravity the mountaintops are taller and steeper than those found on earth. There is a large desert on the eastern side the mountain range that divides the main continent north to south.
The history of Elaia is a short but eventful one. Up until the Earth year (EY) 2589 it was a barren rock with active tectonic action. This is for all intents and purposes is the start of Elaia's history. This first few years of this history are a very turbulent time with the influx of the water from Europa, and the Seeding done my the ARK crew. After a year or so the waters settled and the life that was Seeded began to grow and take root. With the help of the nanites the plant life spread rapidly across the land and sea breaking up the ground into usable soil. During this time animals also spread through out the world adapting quick to their new environments. These nanite infused animals had shortened lifespans to help accelerate the evolution process, this combined with the nanites to help guide mutation lead to an explosion of species in a very short time as niches in Elaia's Ecosystem were being explored. This process continued uninterrupted for 1200 EY. 1206 EY after the humans aboard the ARK discovered Elaia something happened, it has been called a kindling, an awakening, even an activation. What happened was that five races gained full sentience and began to build civilizations. Like all other life on Elaia The Dryina, Jikit, Fiaus, Quil, Thran have short life spans only around 30 ELY, they all build up communities and tribes over the next 500 EY before they made any contact with another race.
The Nanite infused ecosystem of Elaia is mush more dynamic that earth. All of the plan and animal life grow faster live shorter and are closer connected. Symbiotic relationships are the norm, whether it is between plant/plant, plant/animal, animal/animal. Some of the life on Elaia has even evolved to take advantage of the the Nanites flowing through all of them. It is these things that help life survive despite the violent nature of Elaia.
Extreme is the order of the day on Elaia, and the weather is no exception. Thunderstorms are violent and often produce hail in the more temperate latitudes. Though there are no hurricanes on Elaia as there is not enough open ocean for them to form and the vertical of the land disrupts the storms and they are disbursed quickly. The heavy rainfall often overflows rivers and causes flooding in many areas.
